Last year, we launched a brand new set of articles called The Magic of The Music Video which looks at videos that have inspired me as a Video Editor. Well, I thought I would bring that article to life in more ways then one by celebrating certain albums that some of those singles have come off of. Why do this you ask? Well, you may know the songs but may of never actually listened to the albums so welcome to this section of this feature that will happen throughout the year. In May we did a month celebrating music videos made for duets and since then De’Wayne has released his debut album so what better reason is there to look more in depth at the place Perfume is from – Stains
National Anthem
This is the first track on the album and it is really catchy it has this really energetic drum beat that creates this dramatic welcome to this track. The song has these really punchy lyrics that really make you listen closely. It is a really fun track with lots of components that make it a really fun track to listen to and a fantastic one to open an album with. Near the end of the track it has these electronic mixes that are creative and really work so well with the transition into the next track.
Walking To Work
This song starts with a radio like sound that is De’Wayne talking and then it enters into this electronic fast paced beat that is fast paced and has this pace that makes you want to tap your foot along to the addictive sound. The song is a mixture of singing and talking and it works really well.
Money
This is one of the slower tracks on the album and has an element of soul and r’n’b to it that creates a really fun twist on this style of music. It is a song that is full of emotion and really allows the lyrics to be elevated. It is one of those songs that you can imagine listening to on a hot summers day as it has a sort of chilled out vibe to it as well. The chorus is really catchy and once you have listened to it you will become addicted!
Stains
I love the title track of any album and this one really highlights why this album is so good and really puts this musicians talent in the starlight. It is a real mix of genres and you can’t really put it in a box as to what it actually is but that is the magic if it – it is unique and also takes you on a journey. There are these moments that hint at the punk rock side and then these others that have more elements of hip hop it is a very clever track and I think my favourite on the album.
