Tell us about:
Your latest single you have released:
‘HOLY FOOL’ is the first full album by Ukrainian-American band and has been in the works over the last two years. What is in the name? Throughout history some have been called ‘holy fools’.
Traditionally, this is a person who reveals truths in a provocative way and is not afraid of doing so,even if this behavior collides with the social norms. Speaking more on this, VINOK’s lead vocalist Nathalie explained, “Our musical endeavors in this album are a pathway to reveal the insanity of the world in a creatively insane manner.”
Your first single and how you felt when it was released:
Our first single is called “Victory”. It felt like a breath of fresh air after almost a year of not recording and performing as we (Nathalie and Ilya) wrapped up with their previous band. It was the launch of a new band and we felt freedom to express ourselves.
Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:
Your favourite song to play live:
“river” considering all of the changes throughout the song and it keeps everyone on their toes! There was one show when we literally had a mosh pit in the mud going on in the audience during that song.
Your most emotional track:
Both “friends” and “mum” – they are heartbreakers.
The best lyric you have ever written:
“You’re not a communal body for a sacrifice
Ya take cover in that secret life
Those smiles and ties of what you think you are
Won’t fool no one, not even yourself”
Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:
Energized, a little adrenaline, ready to make a statement and get everyone engaged!
The hardest track to play live:
If we had to choose, probably “mum” because it is a very emotional song and there are some changes in tempo throughout the song too.
Essential items you always take on tour with you?
Coffee, coffee, coffee, a smile, notebook & pen, camera/phone, some merch, & business cards.
Describe your fans in three words:
Honest, resilient and committed.
A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:
Creature Comfort by Arcade Fire
Salvation by The Cranberries
What we can look forward to from your band this year:
Maybe some more singles and a few videos! We hope to play some shows as well, but as for most, this depends on the covid restrictions.
