Forgotten Songs! – This Week – I Turn To You

There are so many songs that are out there everywhere then all of a sudden they disappear and you only hear from them very rarely that they can create a sense of nostalgic for you, the listener. So roll up and welcome to Forgotten Songs where we celebrate these forgotten wonders.

I Turn To You – Mel C

Today we are going to look at a single by a former Spice Girl when they turned to the world of the solo artist. Mel C released I Turn To You as the fourth single from her debut album which was called Northern Star. It was a track that became her second number one as a solo act and also was a track from the Original Soundtrack for the film Bend It Like Beckham.

I Turn To You was released the 7th August 200, it was written by Melanie C, Rick Nowels and Billy Steinberg and released under the record label of Virgin. The initial idea was to release the original album version of the track but the record label wanted to see what it would sound like after a few remixes were done and it was actually the Hex Hector version that was released as the single. One of the reasons for this was it could be played in places like Ibiza as well that summer.

The single is considered one of Mel C’s best solo records and it also landed her the tenth number one in the UK. It also made her the first woman to top the charts as part of a quintet, duo and solo artist. The single went into the top 10 in other countries as well including Austria (1), Czech Republic (9) Netherlands (1) Sweden (1) Greece (5) and Germany (2) and that is only a handful of where it was successful.

I really liked this track by Mel C as it had a really good beat and was really catchy, it was one of those songs that was always on the radio or the television when it was released.
