Forgotten Songs! – This Week – Stole

There are so many songs that are out there everywhere then all of a sudden they disappear and you only hear from them very rarely that they can create a sense of nostalgic for you, the listener. So roll up and welcome to Forgotten Songs where we celebrate these forgotten wonders.

Stole – Kelly Roland

After Destiny’s Chid, Kelly Roland went on to have a solo music career and today we will be looking at one of her tracks off of that debut album. Stole was released on the 21st September 2002, it was written by Dane Deviller, Sean Hosein and Steve Kipner and released under the record label Henson Recording Studios. The track was released as the albums lead single after the debut she did with Nelly called Dilemma.

The song has really interesting lyrics which discusses three different teenagers who lives have been ‘stolen’ away due to bad decisions as a result of being misunderstood. This includes topics about gun violence, suicide, depression and adolescent pregnancy.

Due to the success of her debut with Nelly, her album was rushed through to get produced and apparently a lot of the singles on the track including Stole were selected from the Sony Music Pool of demo tapes.

The song did really well in the charts and went into the top 10 in a lot of countries including Australia, Belgium, Denmark, New Zealand, UK and Ireland to name a few.

I thought that the lyrics of this track was really interesting and raised important issues however it is a track that you can only listen to ever so often.
