Off The Record – ALBUM FOCUS – Wake Up Sunshine, All Time Low

Have you ever wanted To listen to a new band or musician and not sure where to start? Well, instead of listening to their commercial music, why not start with something off the album first!  Today we look at the new album by All Time Low that they released at the beginning of this month – Wake Up Sunshine

Getaway Green

The song opens up with a really punchy guitar riff that really connotes the summertime vibes that this album feels with a name such as Wake Up Sunshine. It has melodies in it that remind me of guitar sounds of the early noughties and that is fine, it makes it a really fun listen. It fits perfectly in the catalogue of All Time Low, whilst it is a different sound to their last album it still echoes the bands style. This song may have simplistic lyrics in the chorus but they way that it is presented through uplifitng sounds make it a great listen.

Trouble Is

This song is really catchy, it has a really poetic set of lyrics that lay on top a really addictive melody that is something that this band are so good at doing. The way that the music shifts styling between the verse and the chorus is very effective and really addictive to listen to. The star of this song is the drums as they have some fantastic sections in the song where you can really appreciate the talent of this band.

Wake Up, Sunshine

I have said it more then once on this article, if the album is named after a song then you expect a lot from that track and Wake Up, Sunshine really lives up to expectations. It is fast paced, it has a great beat and a chorus that you get stuck in your head the more you hear it. The guitar melodies in this song are so fun and really entertaining. Two thirds of the way through the song the style and the tone of the track completely change to something slower and stripped back which then builds up again with a full punch into the original riffs. A very effective part of the song.

Favourite Place (Featuring The Band CAMINO)

Right from the start you can tell this song has another band featuring on it as the style is very different to the rest of the songs so far. The guitars in the introduction create a sense of echo and are a sort of sound I would not associate with All Time Low. The drums are defined and make a bold statement in the introduction which slowly strip back in the verses. It is a really nice track, the two bands styles blend really well together and this song I think is one of my favourites on the album it is very good. The end of the track is a real highlight as well and the way that the music builds up to create a really dramatic outro.

Basement Noise

This is the last track on the album and it has a really nice introduction to the song, again an echo style effect is there but I think it works really well as it creates a sense of nostalgia theme in the song. It is a really nice song to end the album with and it makes you look forward to what these guys can and will do next.
