Off The Record – ALBUM FOCUS – Gothica Fennica Vol. 1, VV

Have you ever wanted To listen to a new band or musician and not sure where to start? Well, instead of listening to their commercial music, why not start with something off the album first!  Today we look at the brand new E.P by Ville Valo also now know as VV –  Gothica Fennica Vol. 1

Salute The Sanguine

This is the opening track of the E.p and it has a really powerful introduction to this song with a great guitar melody that welcomes you to the world of the new music stylings from Ville Valo – the Heartagram is still present and the essences of H.I.M can still be heard but this is definitely a new chapter for the musician. The lyrics of this song are poetic and also intertwine into a chorus that brings the Love Metal to life all over again.

Run Away From The Sun

This song has a very acoustic style to it when you are introduced to this track – it is very different to H.I.M and it really is a great and unique way to start a song. When the song starts to get going it reignites the world of Love Metal whilst also introducing and moulding together this new sound that is present in this E.P. The lyrics of the chorus are very simple but the way that they are sung in an emotional melancholic way really makes this song unique and really stand out on the E.P

Saturnine Saturnalia

This song creates an atmosphere of darkness before it really gets going, the music gradually builds into this punchy guitar riff that is bold and striking. Coming of the back of silence and a few eery sounds means that this song really packs a punch when it does kick in. The song feels poetic whilst also have that hintness of darkness. The chorus has a really beautiful musical melody that brings this E.P to a spooky yet wonderful end. The ending of this song is really astounding and creates a wonderful musical journey through the musical mindings of Ville Valo.
