Off The Record – ALBUM FOCUS – Mind, The New Regime

Have you ever wanted To listen to a new band or musician and not sure where to start? Well, instead of listening to their commercial music, why not start with something off the album first!  Today we look at the next EP that follows on from Heart that was released earlier this year – Mind, The New Regime

It’s Gonna Be OK

Mind is the follow up EP to heart and it is not hard to see how, as the first song sort of feels like it follows on very naturally from the Heart. This song has a wonderful piano melody from the start and a really interesting bass riff that follow on very well from the last song of Heart hit also distinctly tell you it’s the next chapter. It has its own very distinct sound and it is nice to have that transition it feels metaphorically that you have moved onto another part of the body and it feels like a song filled with metaphorical thoughts and wonderment.

Do Right By Me

The drum beat comes in solid from the start and has like a sassy bass line that creates a Funk like undertone to this song. The lyrics are simple yet effective with the composition of the music structure. The chorus builds up and creates emotion and effect to the whole song.

Knocking Down You Door

The guitar comes in with a melodic sound that has essence of Heart EP whilst also being very standalone. The repetitive jingle makes the change in guitar tones very obvious which means you pay attention to the key changes in a good way. It has a sense of old fashioned rock to it. A fun listen.

Sweet kind of suffering

The opening of this song relies on an electric sound that jumps between the head phones and intertwines an electronic string style song that really brings this song together. From listening to this song you can feel the elements of other bands he is a part of such as Angels and Airwaves as it sort of takes a song elevates it and takes it to a different level creatively to create this sort of trippy style mindscape. Very clever.
