Hello tell us all about who you all are and three unknown facts about your troupe!
Formerly known as Nu Z Land, we are a fast-paced improv group comprised of Black improvisers, sketch performers, stand-ups and character comedians with credits on Radio 4, Comedy Central, BBC 3 and BBC1.
Our founding members are Tai Campbell and Athena Kugblenu
We have a lawyer in the group, can you guess who it is?
One of our members, Verona Rose has a new BBC3 show: Fully Blown. Check it out!
How did your troupe form?
From necessity. We love improv, but it needs diversifying. So ‘Nu Z Land’ was born. Little did we know the name was only temporary.
How did you come up with the name of your troupe? Was it difficult?
Through lots of WhatsApp chat and threats of a Doodle poll, a member of the team finally came out with the gem, ‘Do The Right Scene’ and we all agreed ‘yes, this is our new name.’
How did you get into improv?
We all got into improv for different reasons, good things come out of improv for your personal and professional development but, but we all stayed for the same one, we love it.
Tell us a little bit about the show that are happening this week?
We are excited to perform Bristol Improv Theatre on Friday 11th October. It’s our second time in Bristol as group and it’s awesome that we get to play at the UK’s first purpose built improv theatre.
What three things are you looking forward to about Bristol?
The people, the stage, the road trip
It is the month of October, the month of Halloween! What is the scariest suggestion you have been given on stage and why?
I’m sure there are lots, but none come to mind. #shamlessplugalert, October is also our monthly resident Hoopla Impro show’s two year anniversary of ‘Special Delivery’ and we love that it’s during Black History Month.
How do you warm up before a show?
Quickfire games, quick fire scenes and giggles.
What have been some of the best suggestions that you have been given in a show and why?
Things that we can relate to, it so fun when an audience member suggests something and you thing ‘Oh, I remember that from when I was younger’.
If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?
Follow on Facebook at Do The Right Scene and on Twitter or Instagram @dtrscomedy.
And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
Fun in Bristol!
QUICK FIRE ROUND
What makes your smile?
Improv.
What is your biggest strength as an improviser?
Getting others involved.
Dream venue to perform at and why?
The Globe, because improv ‘Making it up at The Globe’ needs to be a show.
Are you a dog or cat person?
I prefer Pokemon.
What is the most delightful suggestion for a scene you can think of?
I love you.
If you had to have a tattoo to represent improv what would you have?
‘Accept & Build’ in a font of my choice.
Who is your improv hero and why?
Too many to mention.
What is the last thing you liked on social media?
A tweet from @FROMTHEOFF on Twitter.
Something on your bucket list
Too crude to print.
