Welcome To Taste of States a place where we celebrate the weird and wonderful food of the United States of America. This can be everything from the snacks that are available for a limited time to the foods that are classic traditions at events such as Christmas and Thanksgiving! Each week we will explore the facts and the history surrounding a different food.
PANCAKE SAUSAGE BITES, DUNKIN’ DONUTS
Today we look at a snack that was part of the Dunkin’ Donuts menu. The pancake Sausage Bites were released in 2010 for a limited time as part of the breakfast menu. For $1.59 you could buy a portion of three Pancake Sausage Bites. Apparently, the reason these came about was that Dunkin’ Donuts was testing out new breakfast items to compete against McDonalds, Starbucks and Burger King.
So what actually is this snack? Well it is little bits of sausage wrapped up in a pancake batter that is maple flavoured. The sausage and pancake is a combination that was always a huge hit for American Breakfast but Dunkin’ Donuts was one of the places to change the dynamics and make the breakfast portable.
Even though a lot of people were not looking forward to the idea of these breakfast snacks, people were pleasantly surprised at how nice they were. They were definitely a hit because they returned to the menu for a limited time again in 2012.
