Show Of The Week – INTERVIEW – Consenting Partners ¡GOOF!

For this weeks show of the week we are heading up to Nottingham for a very special event. MisssImp is holding their show Consenting Partners which is an evening celebrating all things twoprov!  The show takes place at Nonsuch Studios at 7.30pm on the 18th May. Throughout the week we will have interviews with a number of the acts performing. This morning we speak to the twoprov troop ¡GOOF!

¡Goof!

Hello tell us all about who you all are and a little bit about yourselves?

James is a successful owl whisperer who invented ¡GOOF! as a form non lethal martial arts. Duncan is a Honky Tonk player from the midwest who James asked to join ¡GOOF! after seeing him swallow a watermelon whole.

We’re just a pair of silly boys who we met doing the Missimp workshops. From there we developed a fierce rivalry which can now only be settled in the Thunderdome that is twoprov theatre. May the eyes of Thalia gaze upon us.

How did the show come about?

We said, ‘We want to do a show’. They said, ‘OK’.

How did your troupe form?

We met on a series of improv weekends and had fun doing scenes together. I think Duncan might be ‘The One’.

Tell us a little bit about the show that is happening this week?

We don’t know. This is the fun and occasionally daunting thing about improv. You can’t write a script, you can’t learn lines, you can’t even dress appropriately. It makes advertising improv interesting. What we can be sure of is that each team will bring their own craziness to the table. It’ll be like a big bag of pick and mix. With the odd rabbit dropping.

What is the best thing about being in a twoprov?

You build trust the more you play together. You also become more tuned to the other’s sense of humour and any boundaries they might have.

You are part of MissImp! Tell us about that?

Missimp is great! We do jams, workshops, shows, bake offs, criminal trials, pirate raids, mini-golf tournaments, birthday parties (we were 20 last year!) and more. It’s also the nicest bunch of misfits you’ll ever get to spend time with.

What makes you different to other twoprov acts out there?

Well, we’re not in any of those other acts. That’s a pretty big difference.

What festivals are you guys planning on heading to this year?

Catfest (on the 11th), The Big Tuesday (next Wednesday), Shorts (weather dependant), Yeastival (it’s getting bigger each year). All the big ones, basically.

It is the month of May – What festivals are you most looking forward to this summer and why?

I’m looking forward to not going to Glastonbury this year again. Duncan is scared of flags.

What advice would you give for people thinking about starting an improv troupe themselves?

Just do it. Make as many mistakes as you can and then own them. The great thing about improv is if it was good, it’s gone. If it was bad, it’s gone. It doesn’t matter, just have as much fun as possible. Don’t live your life by what ifs.

What is the best thing about a night at your show for the audience?

It’s only 10 minutes.

If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?

Twitcloud™, FaceBlanket™, YouStain™, Thingblr™. All the big ones, basically.

And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?

Love. Life. Lolz.

QUICK FIRE ROUND

If you could be any famous duo from TV, Film or Music what would your twoprov be and why?

Holmes and Langsford… The chemistry is off the scale.

Who creates the craziest improv characters?

I think I (Duncan) do. I was once a haunted chair.

I think I (James) do. I was once a giant space worm.

What is your favourite thing about one another?

Duncan isn’t afraid to journey into strange places.

James has a subtle style, starts grounded and then something is slightly off.

What is the thing that the other would go viral for?

James would accidentally walk into the background of a news interview and proceed to eat a really juicy peach.

Duncan doesn’t believe in wheels.

You have £50 in your pocket to buy the other a present – what would you get them and why?

I would buy Duncan some time.

I would buy James some space.

If you had to release a duet – what would the song be and why?

Mashup of you spin me right round and don’t you want me baby. I need to prove that it matches up.

The toughest question of all – last rolo – would you keep it or give it to your twoprov buddy?

I would give it to Duncan, because—little known fact—Rolos are made by sausage dogs.

I would invest the rolo and then split the profits with James.

Rolos are the next Bitcoin.
