Show Of The Week – INTERVIEW – Derek’s Mojo, Healing Comedy Club, Ealing

This week we are heading to Ealing for this weeks show of the week. On Thursday, Dereks Mojo are performing at the  “Healing Comedy Club” at 7:30pm. I caught up with Monica and Jodyanne to find out what they have in store for the audience…
Hello  tell us all about  who you all are and a little bit about yourselves?
We are the fun, fast, feminist two-prov “Derek’s MoJo”, made up of Monica Gaga and Jodyanne FR.
How did the show  come about?
Through a process of alot of love, laughs, tears, late nights, play and love of improv.
How did your troupe form?
We found ourselves the only two regularly available for rehearsals from a bigger short-form improv group we were part of called, “Improvisers Anonymous” and thought hey we are both here let’s do something.
Tell us a little bit about the show that is happening this week?
We are going to be playing at the “Healing Comedy Club” on Thursday 21st March 2019 (19:30) at The Kings Arms in Ealing (W5 5DX). We love this gig as it was born from the idea of the healing power of comedy. We firmly believe and practice improv as a form of self care and growth, so we are right at home there.
What improv styles do you want to see more of this year and why?

Bring on the dramatic improv with strong emotional connection, we find it so cathartic. Improv is definitely at times whimsical and absurd and we love that, but you got to also love some grounding in truth and human vulnerability.
What festivals are you guys planning on heading to this year?

We are looking forward to the buzz of the “Edinburgh Fringe Festival” where we look to guest on a couple of shows (so if you are looking for a fun two-prov that promises to delivery the good times, hit us up!) and we will be returning to the “Byline Festival” for the second year running.
Spring is just around the corner – what are you going to do to ‘spring clean’ your improv?

Play, play, play and see more improv!
What advice would you give for people thinking about starting an improv troupe themselves?

Do it! Do it because you love improv. Do it because you love the people in your group. Do it because you have a space in your life for it and always remember improv is suppose to be fun. Of course things to bear in mind, make sure admin is appropriately and realistically shared out and book your first gig at “Duck Duck Goose”, “Hoopla”, “The Nursery” or on somebody else’s night so you have something to aim for.
What is the best thing about your night  for the audience?

They are guaranteed to be taken on a high octane adventure, so put of your party pants and come join in the fun.
If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?

We are on all the usual suspects when it comes to social media @dereksmojo or visit our website for a one stop shop to take you wherever you want for all your Derek’s MoJo needs.
And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?

Because we are “fun, fast and feminist”

What is the strangest thing you’ve ever eaten?

It’s too rude to print (feel free to ask us in person)
If you could trade lives with anyone for a day who would it be and why?

Each other, so we could grow even more closer (soppy, we know).
If you could paint anything what would you paint?

The soles of our feet, so everyone could follow us, if they ever needed an adventure.
What is the most delightful word you can think of?
Plop! Well today anyway.
Favourite song?

“The Girl From Ipanema”, well we always end up humming it.
Who is your comedy hero and why?

Monica’s nan! You have to meet her and then you will know why she is one of them.
What is your favourite movie quote?

Too many to choose from, for us to decide on one.
Who is your favourite cartoon character and why?

Got to love us some Daria, always keeping it real.
