Welcome to a special themed set of interviews for the lead up to Christmas – celebrating all the wonderful festive shows that are on this year. I have sat down with a bunch of troupes to find out more about the shows that they are performing.
Today we speak to an award winning improv troupe that are returning to Stratford East this Christmas for their big Christmas show. Their show is this Friday and is £10 to enter, I caught up with the troupe to find out all about it.
Hello guys tell us all about Shoot From The Hip?
Shoot From The Hip are an improv comedy group, founded in 2011, recommended by the Evening Standard, Metro and Time Out, with weekly London residencies at Angel Comedy, Up The Creek and The Bill Murray.
What is the show that you are bringing to the stage in this Festive season?
On the 14th of December we’re bringing our Big Christmas Show to the Stratford East Theatre! A completely improvised panto antidote.
Will there be a bit of festivity in your show?
Oh yeah, we’re all Big Christmas fans – what’s not to like? There will definitely be some festive cheer in amongst the crazy!
What are your favourite things about the festive season and why?
Goodwill to all and day drinking. They both give us a warm glow inside.
This time of year the venues tend to be a bit busier as well – do you find that the audience changes at all?
December comedy shows at clubs can get a little odd… lots of work parties full of people who don’t normally hang out. They can get a little self conscious about laughing at the wrong thing.
What advice would you give for people performing around the festive season – is it important to drop a Christmas-related theme into it?
If what you’re doing is working keep at it! Sometimes, Christmas can get a bit much and offering a break is good. But if a little festive cheer will improve you stuff, super – just don’t force it in.
What is the best thing about a night at Shoot From The Hip for the audience?
I think it’s the interplay between the comedians. We’re all long-term friends who know how to bounce off each other, push each other’s buttons, and mock each other relentlessly when needed.
If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?
What is YOUR favourite show you have done this year and why?
The last Big Show we did at Stratford East this February was pretty incredible. We had amazing guests, props, a heroic story of a rebellious Frenchman taking down a sexy Nazi – everything you need of an evening.
