Hoopla Improv Marathon – INTERVIEW -Kathy & Unai In The Morning

All this week we have exclusive interviews with just some of the acts that are performing at the Hoopla Impro Marathon in London Bridge between 7pm Friday – 11pm Saturday night. I caught up with Unai to find out all about his morning show with Kathy.

Kathy & Unai in the Morning

NAME OF SET: Kathy & Unai in the Morning

TIME SLOT: 9am Saturday

Hello guys! How did you come up with the name of your show?
Kathy and Unai is a shameless parody of ‘Troy and Abed in the morning’ on Community (the best TV series of all time). We loved the idea of a cheesy morning show filled with nonsense segments.

Tell us about your time slot?
Last year we were earlier so we can all lie in this year! Come see us! Improv is recommended as an early morning activity by 9 out 10 fake TV doctors.

Tells us a little bit about your style of improv?
False, american, bitchy and fun!

What will your set be about?
It will be a fabulous morning show run by the Best Selling author, Unai and (closet) Alcoholic, Kathy

What other acts are you looking forward to?
All the weird and wonderful improv marathon exclusive acts, the Hoopla Community Choir, Dark Matters…

What have been some of your favourite shows to date and why?
We enjoy it most when people think our books and bitchiness is real…

A lot of people at the moment are trying to transition improv into video to post on social media channels – do you think this works for improv or do you think the art form is lost in the transition?

Kathy: I love that improv isn’t recorded. It happens and never happens again! And you can never rewatch or re play that moment. To me that makes it special. However I think lose scripts with improv around it works well on TV and film and it gives a spontaneous energy that scripts sometimes don’t have.

Unai: I feel like the energy in the room is a big part of the fun of improv, without that exchange between performers and audience it becomes a bit like sketch or stand up. I agree with Kathy that some of the magic of it is being there, in the moment, and it never happening again.

If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?

Kathy: We are enigmas.. we haven’t got any social media (maybe we should, Unai?)

Unai: We’re too big for instagram, I won’t settle for less than the cover of Times Magazine.

And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?

Early. Morning. Sass.
