All this week we have exclusive interviews with just some of the acts that are performing at the Hoopla Impro Marathon in London Bridge between 7pm Friday – 11pm Saturday night. I caught up with Alberto to find out all about their unusually named show.
NAME OF SET: BananaFarm Presents: Uncle Pig’s Memoirs
TIME SLOT: 1:10am Saturday Morning
Hello Alberto! Tell us about BananaFarm and the name of your set!
We’re an international group of improvisers that met during a Hoopla Performance Course with Andrew Gentilli and decided to band together to continue performing and sharpen our skills. Our set is called “BananaFarm Presents: Uncle Pig’s Memoirs”.
How did you come up with the name of your show?
Uncle Pig is a recurring character from our past and we wanted to delve a bit deeper into the pig, the myth, the legend.
Tell us a little bit about your style of improv?
It’s silly, it’s short, it’s high energy!
What will your set be about?
We want to dive into the tumultuous past of our titular character, Uncle Pig.
What other acts are you looking forward to?
Dreamweaver Quartet, Grand Theft Impro, and many more.
What have been some of your favourite shows you have performed to date and why?
We’ve really enjoyed the Hoopla Launchpad shows that we’ve done so far. It’s a great opportunity for us to try out all sorts of nonsense.
A lot of people at the moment are trying to transition improv into video to post on social media channels – do you think this works for improv or do you think the art form is lost in the transition?
We think that the magic created when an audience and a group are together is something that is lost online.
What have been some of the most unique and different improv sets you have seen this year and why?
We’ve seen a wide variety of really imaginative types of shows that pushed the boundaries of regular improv: a shadow puppet show, an improvised Bond film, Newsical’s hilarious take on current affairs, and TJ and Dave’s improvised play.
If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media? TBC. JK ROFLING.
And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
Sex, drugs, pigs.
