Nostalgic Nineties

Nostalgic Nineties – Tazos

Your friend had them, your relatives had them, my bedroom wall had them even Walkers Crisp had them  – back in the late nineties this was something that everyone had. Tazos were the craze and there were soooo many varieties that drove the General Public Wild. So before we go into the world of Tazos lets first define what they are. Well a Tazo was a circular disk that was sort of like a game and was played to win other Tazos – similar to the idealogy of Pogs.

Now, back when I was at school, we never used Tazos as a game instead we were made on collecting them – they were everywhere! They were in kids magazines, you could buy them in shops or even get them in Crisps and cereal packets. The ones I predominantly remember are Looney Tunes and Star Wars.

Screen Shot 2018-02-02 at 15.55.52Walkers Crisp released a Star Wars Tazo book where you could collect the discs in packet of crisps and then be placed in a Star Wars collectors addition booklet. Everyone went wild for them – i remember swapping them in the playground, family members collecting them for me – EVERYONE WAS CRAZY FOR THEM. At one point I even wrote to Walkers about the Tazos because they gave us a lot of the same ones in a multipack and they sent me 50 free ones in the post (but I still didn’t finish the damn book!! I still have it somewhere and there are about 3 missing!!).

I am not sure what others were doing with all the random Pogs that they got in their magazines and things but I used to blue tack them to the wall in a neat line above my poster of Steps and 5ive.

They really were a craze that everyone went mad for especially when the pokemon ones kicked in (although i never really got into them).
