The most recent trend in the travel show is to attach a comedy to it and there are so many – some serious, some spoofs, some that are the dynamics of an actual scripted comedy and others because they were one big practical joke! Travel Thursdays have just got bigger as we are now adding a comedic spin on it where we are looking at the comedian versus the travel.

Today we look at a show that aired just before Christmas as part of the BBC festive collection – it shows two of the most iconic female characters on what they do best but this time in the real world – drinking!

The show called Joanna & Jennifer: Absolutely Champers, aired on BBC 2 at 9pm on 21st December and was an hour long fun fest episode showing the stars of Absolutely Fabulous, Patsy Stone and Edina Monsoon, real names Joanna Lumley and Jennifer Saunders, explore the world of everything to do with Champagne.

In the show they are known for living on the sparkly liquid, so what better way to celebrate this then send the actresses off to the North East of France to find out how the glorious substance is made!

In the show they visit family run vineyards to discover how the drink is made and the processes it ha to go through. As well as exploring the alcohol and much drinking in between, the women also talked about stories from their lives that they have never spoken about on camera before!

If you are in the UK there is still time for you to watch the programme on BBC IPlayer
