Welcome to the month of Christmas and there is one thing that we love on The Phoenix Remix then its the month of sparkly lights, tinsel and repetitive songs. Each day we are going to bring you some christmas goodness and talk about different areas of the festive season in a fun and exciting way. So welcome to this sites version of the advent calender – 24 Days of Christmas. Today we start with the all importanbt subject of
THE CHRISTMAS MOVIE.
If there is one thing that i love about this time of year then it is the Christmas film, i love watching them and they instantly get me in the mood. There are many films that i could write about here that I love but instead I am going to limit myself to only four as they all have a certain meaning to me.
The Greatest Store in the World
When I was a kid – this television film was everything to me – and even though I haven’t seen it in years it is still a magical thing for me and one of the best television films that I have seen. It is about a family that start to live in the department store of Scottleys which is known as the best department store in Britain. At some point in the film, S Club 7 make an appearance as well. The film to me was magical, it is what everyone wants to do, be locked in a department store and discover the magic and that as a kid was something that i fell in love with about it and to this day still would be something great.
Jingle All The Way
For as long as I can remember, this film has been in my life. I love it and don”t feel liek it’s christmas unless I watch it. I know the film script pretty much inside out and that doesn’t bother me. There are parts of the film that these days i find drag but I will still find a time to sit down and watch it. It wouldn’t be a christmas without Arnie saying its “Turbo Time.”
Elf
This film i watched a year or two later then everyone else but from watching it, the film is basically the most christmassy thing ever. People in the UK now see this film like a benchamark like the Coca Cola truck – when its on television its “officially christmas time” and my social media feeds go mental! I love the childish feel of this film, the magic that it creates and just the pure jolly feel of everything.
Serendipity.
This is such a cheesy film but again, it is one of those films I associate with Christmas and if I don’t watch it then I feel lost and not christmassy. It’s all based around a lost glove and a phone number on a dollar bill. It’s a very silly story concept but its the pure cheese i love of it and its been in my life since I was a kid. Remember I said this film has been in my life since i was a child, well i only realised a few years ago that the “ice rink” was actually a roller rink – i never understood how John Cusack could sit on it for a whole evening – when i realsed it was a revelation that changed my life!
So this year when you decide on christmas films to watch, why not give some of these classics a go and release the magic!
P.S and yes. Die Hard IS a christmas film
