This month is all about celebrating independent film makers.Today we talk to actress Emma Hewitt who is playing Emilie in the film.
We sat down with her to find out more about The Good Boy
Tell us a bit about yourself
I graduated from Oxford University last summer (fittingly!) where I studied English Literature, and am now doing an MA in acting at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts. I’ve always loved being on stage, although for the first ten years of my life I was exclusively cast as men or trees – that’s what you get for being a tall girl. I also love to write, and have just finished my first play.
How did you get involved with the good boy?
Jem contacted me about the part after seeing some of my previous work, and sent me the script to read over. I loved it, so we did some self-tape auditions and the rest is history.
Why did you decide to take the role of Emilie?
I’m playing Emilie. It’s a great role – she’s confident, mysterious, and you get to see two really different sides to her within a short script. Although she’s sort of the villain of the film, I like that in a way, her and Elliot are actually quite similar – they’re good people tempted to do bad things by circumstance.
What makes Good Boy different to other projects you have worked on?
What drew me to The Good Boy is that it really captures the drama and intensity of growing up: when you’re a teenager, you feel everything so strongly, and you can be driven to do things which, looking back on as an adult, you can barely believe. That’s what makes teenage-hood a great time to write about – you can crank up the intensity levels and it’s still realistic.
Which actors do you find influencing and why?
I love Felicity Jones for the simplicity and depth of her performances. Phoebe Waller-Bridge is an actress I am crazy about, and would also love to go on a night out with – if you’re reading this, call me, Phoebe.
What’s the best part about being an actor?
The variety of the job – you never know where you’ll be next. The chance to be someone else for a while.
What’s the most challenging?
Ditto above.
In three words, why should people back The Good Boy?
Hello! My name is Holly and I am the Editor of The Phoenix Remix. I am a Video Editor in the Television Industry. I write this website as a hobby in my spare time. Comedy and Music run through my veins and I love writing about them both, I adore interviewing acts and always on the lookout for something new!
I do this website completely voluntary and as a hobby and it can be thirsty work! In one year alone I write anything between 500-1000 articles. Every year for festival season I can interview up to 200-300 acts and that is not even including the interviews I do every week!
