This month we are speaking to folk-rock artist Baxter Hall. The singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Boston released his four-track EP The Work in September. All through November we are speaking to Baxter to go behind the scenes of the music and production process. This week we get to know a bit more about Baxter and delve into the world of his music.

Hello Baxter lovely to meet you all ! How did you get into music?
I grew up in a musical family with my dad being a classical musician, so I always saw a music career as an option. I started playing guitar around age 12 and played professionally all throughout my teenage years. Not long after graduating high school, I was writing a lot of songs and it became clear to me that I wanted to pursue a career as a solo artist.
How would you describe your genre of music?
Americana, roots-rock, folk, and pop.
What have been your inspirations for this sound?
I listen to all sorts of music. A lot of blues, and old folk, but I love modern pop music too. I really appreciate where music is, in a historical context.
What is your favourite thing about the music industry?
The opportunity to connect with my fans and see the messages of my song reaching people. I always try to respond to as many comments as I can and say a prayer of gratitude towards each person.
You have a lot of followers on social media – was it hard to get people’s attention?
I have been very fortunate that my content has resonated with so many people. I never take it for granted. It’s hard work, but I’m happy to do it if it means I get to reach new fans.
Who is your favourite musician?
Yo-Yo Ma
If people want to follow you on social media where can they visit?
I’m on basically every social media platform, but I engage the most on TikTok and instagram.
