It is not the first time that a computer game has created inspiration for an Improv Corner article. As soon as this game was released, there was so many viral videos that it was easy to get sucked into a hole and watch them all. It also made me see the potential for improv inspiration.

There are so many things you can gain from Meccha Chameleon that are transferable to improv and that is why I thought it would be important to look at today.

Body Shapes

The aim of the game is to hide in different body shapes in an arena such as an art museum, farmyard or supermarket and paint yourself to blend into the background so you won’t be found. This is great for inspiration for many reasons – in improv you can use your body shape in so many different ways to create an unlimited amount of characters. You can create so many varieties and this game is great for this as it unleashes your imagination.

Humour

One thing obvious from the viral videos that I have watched in that there is so much humour in this game that is created by the silliness. The way that people discover creative ways people have hidden on their own or as a group creates so much fun for the team and the hunters when they discover them.

This is just a couple of ways that the game inspires and what we can learn from this for improv. The main thing is that the possibilities are endless. If you commit to a shape or a walk, spin it on it’s head don’t always think of the most predictable outcome for something. Sometimes thinking outside the box can create some comedy and a great scene.

Use others in your team to create a character – some of the funniest outcomes are when a whole team on the game create a structure together as it is unexpected. Using more then one person to create a character may be really fun for an improv scene.

I hope that this has helped and given you some ideas for the future.
