The relationship between Ricky Gervais, Stephan Merchant and Karl Pilkington is hilarious. I first discovered it when a friend introduced me to their podcast and I loved it. The discussions were really funny and something I could not get enough of. When they announced they were going to make a television show where they sent Karl around the world, I knew it would be great fun.
When we look at this show, I thought it would be good to look at the first episode as it really sets the tone for the rest of the series – China.
The aim of the show is for Karl to see all the wonders of the world starting with the Great Wall of China. This is a fun episode as you see him trying to eat as he doesn’t like unusual food. He is also not a fan of trying new experiences. It gets to the point straight away that he is not a fan of new things and that is why it works so well.
If you want the episode to feel more in depth, read the Idiot Abroad Diaries book as it goes really into depth of how he feels about where he visits and it makes it even more funny.
