Every month we will take a look at the music videos of certain artists and bands more in depth to explore just why I love them.
I am a Video Editor – and one of the things (probably the main thing) that inspired me to work in television post production was actually music videos.
Music videos are one of my favourite things in the world and I spent hours and I MEAN literally hours when I was growing up watching them Even now in the modern world, I can find myself getting lost on YouTube watching music videos for hours on end – they are an addiction.
This month we are delving into the world of The Prodigy’s music. I grew up with their music and their style was so iconic that they really stood out. Some of their videos are phenomenal and I realised there was a lot of them I had not watched so I thought it would be good to take a look at this month.

Why did you choose this particular video?
This is another really catchy track by The Prodigy and this is what I would say is a ‘dirtier’ beat. This makes this song a really interesting video to look at because of the style of song.
So, what is the narrative?
This video is set in what looks like a sort of warehouse style of room. Throughout the lights are flickering and then there ends up being fights in the mud at the end.
Favourite parts of the video
The colour blue plays a prominent part in this video as it creates this sense of darkness to the video that is needed. It also manipulates the light nearer the end when it becomes more grungy and darker in the video.
There is one specific part of the video where all the music stops and the whole video slows down, you are not expecting it. So when it happens it really takes you by surprise but creates this really interesting group in the video.
A lot of close ups are used throughout the video to create this claustrophobic feel to the room. It has a way of creating this intensity and this darkness that you expect from this video, especially when it gets more chaotic later.
