Your latest stand up show:

Stuart Laws Three-Way is a half-hour special cut from multiple performances of the same show in different locations. That’s 3 hours of footage down to 30. This is prime cuts territory.

Your favourite joke you have created: 

Asking the audience “what’s the biggest pig you can imagine?” And “where would you least like a horse to be?” Means that I’ll end up with either some wild answers or something I’ve heard before and have jokes that I can say in response. 

Your favourite venue to perform at:

XS Malarkey, it’s simply one of the best rooms and audiences in the country and it’s run by the best team. I’d been excited about filming there for a long time so am delighted I got the chance – they didn’t let me down.

The joke  that was the longest to write and why?

There’s a joke in my play Stuart Laws is Stuck that I’d been working on for years and couldn’t quite coalesce. It’s that I’d rather my nudes leak than my notes. My phone notes seem way more personal and embarrassing. I could never make it work as stand up but then when it was put down as a monologue in a play it suddenly was easier to write and way funnier. Might actually nab that bit and put it into my stand up now.

Comedy hero:

Beth Hamilton – she techs my shows and is so good and kind and in demand I am very lucky she makes space for me and whatever wild thing I’ve planned and then thrown in her direction. She knows her stuff but also improvises brilliantly – she even got shouted out by people on a clip of mine that went viral, from my show where I fly the audience using a flight sim.

She was riding the lights in a very fun way, making the whole thing feel more immersive but then right at the end of the show she played a sound cue that wasn’t planned because it was a callback to something improvised halfway through the show. That’s heroic.

Dream venue to play at:

In the round, any venue in the round because I’ve watched a bunch of my favourite comedians do it and it looks so fun and like the sort of place I could do something beyond the pail and pale.

Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:

Are my flies open, have I accidentally left my flies open, how do I subtly check if my flies are open and everyone can see my underwear or even worse, flesh, if it’s Sunday and everything else is in the wash.

The hardest joke to perform and why:

Where I talk about how much everyone fancies me. Shouldn’t be allowed to do stuff like that, comedy has gone too far.

Too many things actually.
