Your latest single you have released:

Our new single is called “We’ll Be One” and it’s a song about a stalker who ruminates about his fate while in prison. Musically, it’s more organic and softer than our usual fare. 

Your favourite lyric in this song:

 “I’m left to rot inside this cell, I’ll find a way to escape this hell.”

Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:

I wrote a song about the Tsunamis in Japan in 2011, it’s called “Day Zero” and it’s on our second record “Humdrum”. It’s more than eight minutes long and quite complex. It’s my all-time favourite APS song.

Your favourite song to play live:

We don’t play live much, but when we do, we always throw in the odd cover, like Sabrina’s “Boys (Summertime Love)” or Lou Reed’s “Sword of Damocles”. These two couldn’t be further removed from each other, but we love contradictions.

The song that was the longest to write and why?

There’s a song on our next album which called “Beehive in the Backyard”. I carried the basic idea of this song with me for more than 15 years before actually recording it. It just took ages to take shape in my head.

One of your previous tracks you would recommend for first time listeners of your music and why? 

I’d give “The Wait” a shot. It’s on our third album “No Leaf Clover” and I think it sums up quite nicely everything we are, both lyrically and musically.

Dream collaboration:

I’d love to have Simone Butler, formerly of Primal Scream and now with The Twilight Sad, to collaborate on a couple of songs, both on bass and vocals. 

Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:

I’m usually full-on focused and concentrated, but also looking forward to having a great time and connecting with the audience once the nerves go away after a couple of songs. 

The track that is most fun to play live:

“Shining Star” is quite nice to play as we do it acoustically, just with piano, drum machine and acoustic guitar.

Essential items you always take on tour with you?

Halls. I can’t sing without a Halls in my mouth, I think it’s some kind of tick of mine.

A song released in the last few years by an artist or band you wish you had written:

“Home” by Public Image Ltd. It’s not their best-loved tune, but I simply can’t get enough of it. I especially digh the chorus of “Better Days Will Never Be.”

What we can look forward to from your band this year: 

After “We’ll Be One” there’ll be another couple of singles, and in early January 2027 we’ll have a new album out. And all the while we are working on the next record. Idle we are not.
