Tasmin Sarkany brings to life the character Amelia Crotchet a classical musician with her violin at hand with one aim in show to create a show where classical music and comedy intertwine.
In the intimate setting of the Wee Container 1, Tasmin brings to life some fun jokes about classical music, modern society with lots of fun puns attached along the way. One thing that makes it unique is that the violin acts sort of like a puppet and the second part of the comedy act. It is not just there to create the music it is also there to bring the show and the punchlines to life.
The character of Amelia is probably a tad predictable being very posh but it works incredibly well as it charms the audience as well as reeling them into the world what is expected with Classical music.
Initially the show takes a little bit to find it’s feet relying on a joke about Now that’s what I call that goes on a bit too long but once it goes past this section the show finds it’s pace and ends up being a fun comedy show. There are big laughs throughout from the audience.
As a fellow violinist myself, I found the show a really fun way to portray the talent and the hard work that goes into playing complex and simpler songs. Tasmin uses the violin to bring the show to life in such a unique way that it is informative as well as joyful. It has this great way of sculpting the jokes which is incredibly enjoyable and very clever.
Combining comedy into the world of the violin is not an easy thing to do but it is a relatable show with a lot of fun along the way. It’s sort of like what would happen if Classic FM was turned into a mockumentary.
An interesting mix but creates hilarity and brings the genre of classical music to a whole new generation in a way that’s relatable.
Classically individual and strikes the comedic chord.
