This year sees Chris Cantrill returns to the fringe after having 2025 off. He returns not just as a comedian but as an SNL UK writer, if you didn’t know!
The show is fully booked for the Tron, that means a completely packed room but it also means that the atmosphere is electric which means that it makes Chris thrive even more then usual.
The warm up routine is comforting and fun, easing the audience into big laughs and a vibrant atmosphere right from the start. Whilst there is small audience participation it doesn’t feel like that as he makes the whole room feel safe for those he does interact with. It is easy to say, right from the first joke there are big laughs that continue throughout.
The show is based around living in a village and a small community. Chris is originally from the city and whilst his show in 2024 lightly touched on this, 2026 he delves deeper into this world. The hour delves into topics such as his wife wanting Chris to socialise more in the village, the ‘politics’ of the village and everything in between. Being someone who has also moved from the smokes of London to a tiny village up north of the UK I could understand a lot of his frustrations and opinions as I deal with the same thing. Even if you are not in this situation you will still find a lot to laugh about.
The thing I admire about Chris’ shows is that you think the hour is going to go one direction and it does a flip and goes down a route you wouldn’t expect and heightens the comedy to a whole new level.
Unlike the shows I have seen before this one has ncreased tech which elevates the jokes. The odd light effects and a television really increase the fun of the show and take his comedy to a whole new level.
This is a charming show to go and see in the middle of your day. It will be a fantastic way to kick off your day and one that you will find hard to forget.
