It is August which only means one thing – it is Camden Fringe time! Over the next few weeks we are chatting to acts that are performing at the festival and finding all about their show and what they would call this years iconic Camden Fringe Pigeon! Today we find out about the show Are You There Mother?

Tell us a little bit about your style of show?
The show is a story and character led dark northern comedy entirely in the tradition of Alan Bennett’s Talking Heads. It follows A struggling actor is caught up in a plot to help a woman grieving her mother, by posing as a psychic medium. What begins as a matter of goodwill quickly turns into a deeply troubled and darkly hilarious role play that continues for far longer than anybody expected.
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
I will be doing my best to see as many other northern artists as I can, as I know the lengths it takes to star original northern theatre on a fringe budget.
How are rehearsals going?
Rehearsals are going very well, we’ve performed the show twice already and so are now in the exciting process of knowing to some extent what works with audiences.
What is the best thing about performing at the Camden fringe?
This will be my first time which I’m overjoyed about.
London can be an expensive place to perform in – what key advice would you give to performers that is a sort of life hack?
Developing as broad and faithful a group of fellow creative peers as you can – I would be nothing without my friends and fellow creatives.
Who would be your ultimate dream audience member?
The show is heavily indebted to the work of Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton, so it would mean the absolute world if either could make any date.
The iconic image of the Camden Fringe is the Pigeon – if you could call this years pigeon a name to represent its style what would it be and why?
If I was naming it shameless publicity purposes I’d call them Martha after our lead character – that or I’d call him the funky pigeon? Has that been used before?
