It is August which only means one thing – it is Camden Fringe time! Over the next few weeks we are chatting to acts that are performing at the festival and finding all about their show and what they would call this years iconic Camden Fringe Pigeon! Today we find out about the show The Vampire Run

Tell us a little bit about your style of show?

It’s a glorious mash up of comedy, game show, horror and choose-your-own-adventure, with a smidge of social deduction thrown in for good measure. It’s interactive, but in such a way that you can be as involved or not involved as you please. So the horror comes from the show, not the fear of taking part!

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

I love long form improv, so The Show That Goes Backwards looks right up my street. Lighthouse sounds great as well. I love shows that feel tensely claustrophobic.

How are rehearsals going?

Great thanks! It’s a one man show, so I have to think that or I’m screwed. I premiered the show at the Lambeth Fringe last year, so mainly tweaking and finessing and coming up with new stupid things.

What is the best thing about performing at the Camden fringe?

The variety of stuff on, and spaces available. It’s a brilliant mix of serious, silly, new, and existing shows. And there’s a sprawling list of venues across the borough that there’s somewhere evocative for any kind of show. That’s why I’ve picked a windowless basement, that’s my happy place.

London can be an expensive place to perform in – what key advice would you give to performers that is a sort of life hack?

Make life as simple for yourself as possible. If you can make a one person show, why not do that? Cuts down on the space needed for rehearsals etc. Unless you desperately need something large and heavy, make the props and costume able to be carried on public transport. It’s scary to do a solo show, but also thrilling.

Who would be your ultimate dream audience member?

Claudia Winkelman. With all her Traitors experience I’d love to see how she does with the social deduction element of the show. Plus she’d be good to have a natter with.

The iconic image of the Camden Fringe is the Pigeon – if you could call this years pigeon a name to represent its style what would it be and why?

Igeon Knigeon. I swear pigeons are daredevils. They wait for the last moment before swooping out of the way of buses and cars, and soar super close to people in stations. They’re having a ball.
