It is festival season and that means that in the next month there is so many great comedy festivals to look forward to! This month we are looking at some of the great shows that you can see at the Edinburgh Fringe. So take note because we are going to give you all the information you need for just a handful of some of the great shows happening this year!

Tessa : Johnny is a white northern man who’s recently found the Spoken Word scene. The rules seem straight forward. He’s sorted his set and is looking forward to expressing his feelings. His complex feelings.
I AM JOHNNY is unsettling, funny and politically sharp. A surreal and intimate exploration of masculinity, class and the quiet expectations that sit beneath emotional exposure.
Johnny: If I get reviewed we’re looking at 10 stars across the board.
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
Tessa : Anatomy of Survival/ Basque Showcase: Jarraibiderik Gabe and Trembling Frequencies/ Creepy Boys: SLUGS/ Brit Barron CHURCH/ Naughty Cabaret/ BIGGER – Sofiane Chalal / Julius Caesar variety show/ Up: Violin Vs Football/ Border Bodies/ Boys Don’t Dance/ Kismet/ Fanny Bleach: The Nearly Naked Show/ They’re Just Small Town (Northern) Lads/ Bog Witch/ Surreally Good/ Man or Bear/ Transmission. I’m obsessed with dance, so the entirety of the Dance Base programme.
Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.
Tessa : I’ve performed at the Fringe several times as an actor with Traverse Theatre, Paines Plough’s Roundabout, and Pleasance, but this is the first time I’ve brought my own work to the festival. I’m prepping for the waves, equipped with Rennies and probably a new crystal I’ll inevitably put all my faith into to keep me mentally stable!
Advice for other performers : Go to Arthur’s Seat, sit there till your bum hurts and get perspective!
Johnny: Never done it. Never been to Scotland. Hear it’s freezin.
Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe
Tessa: I can be real regimented with these things. For the first couple of days my morning ritual will consist of looking up where to get a mocha from. Once I’ve had a mocha I can start thinking about the bigger picture.
Johnny: I journal. I’m working on my Pyramidalis atm (at the moment) and journaling allows me to reflect on my successes and my immense failure. Reflection is essential.
Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?
Tessa: Fava Greek Kitchen in Haymarket. It’s a lush place to take loved ones, a really nice vibe. Can book a big table if there’s lots of you, the lighting’s nice and so are the loo’s. TICK TICK TICK.
Alternatively, boil some eggs, take the bus to Portobello (25min ride) and get in the sea. Have a swim or paddle and eat your egg! Nothing better than eating a boiled egg in the sea. I stand by that!
Johnny: That fudge shop.
Best thing about performing at the fringe?
Tessa : Everywhere you go folks are having conversations about art. It feels like a mad privilege to escape the outside world for a month, because it does feel like another world…I guess it’s because everyone’s there attempting to make a different one! Profound!
Johnny: I dunno, I haven’t done it yet it might be a f***** nightmare.
Do you bring anything special from home to make it feel more special whilst you are away?
Tessa: Loads of stuff, a perfume from one of my best friends to spray at every street corner. My girlfriend’s t-shirt (she doesn’t know about this yet). Headphones so I can listen to Big Thief on repeat. I’ve been thinking of my gran a lot recently, so I might take her Tommy Cooper joke book, just so I can be one of those people you see reading on the Meadows! I also recently found a beautiful green glass marble on the pavement. I’ll take that too no doubt.
Johnny: My phone. I can’t go anywhere without my phone. I recently got a portable phone charger. I’ll probably take that too.
What are your best hacks to save money whilst at the Fringe?
Tessa : The Boiled eggs – take them everywhere – you can nab salt sachets from a commercial coffee shop trough, which, come to think of it, sits beside the wooden stick stirrers which you’d be wise to take a few of in case later you need to do a spell.
Also carry an empty tupperware container, so if you don’t eat the entire spenny sandwich, you never intended to buy, you can pop it in there and that’s tomorrow’s lunch sorted!
