Hello! Tell us all about your show!

Hi, I’m Dante Passarelli, director and playwright. It’s so nice to be talking to you. Thank you for having me. We’re bringing the show The Last Drop from our company Manás Theatre Lab, based in São Paulo, Brazil. I wrote and co-directed it a few years ago. The show is about the ways we’ve been living, in the big cities around the world, immersed in property speculation – our roofs leaking, with no real connection as human beings. On a deeper level, and as a direct reference to Hamlet, the show is also about a son whose father has died and is perhaps contemplating revenge. So that’s what triggers the play, a surprising blend of comedy and thriller.

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

I’m looking forward to the Fringe experience as a whole, because the mere thought of a major city hosting hundreds of plays every day for a month is absolutely incredible. So I’m definitely excited to see everything I can.

Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe. 

This is my first time at the Fringe, so I actually would love any advice or tips about it! I recently spoke to a performer who did the Fringe last year and the advice she gave me was to bring layers, because Scottish weather can be unpredictable, so I’m passing that on as well to people who might not know. 

If this is your first time – what are you looking forward to?

Besides seeing shows, I’m really looking forward to meeting other artists from all over the world at the Fringe. I find there’s something incredibly beautiful about this union.

Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe

I’m picturing a routine that looks like waking up, walking around town and seeing one show after another, getting something to eat, talking to people about theatre, performing your own show, and then finishing the day at the pub talking even more about theatre.

Best thing about performing at the fringe?

The best thing about performing at the Fringe is performing AT THE EDINBURGH FESTIVAL FRINGE. That’s huge!

Do you bring anything special from home to make it feel more special whilst you are away?

No, whenever I’m away I actually find that the memories and stuff that I bring with me when I return home makes the experience of being away from home even more special.

What are your best hacks to save money whilst at the Fringe?

Off the top of my head, I suppose always walking around with a friend will equal a 50% bill at all times anywhere. But I haven’t really gotten there yet so if anyone has any proven hacks, please do write to me about it!
