Hello! Tell us all about your show!

Don’t You Forget About Me is a rare return to the stage by yours truly – Fake Escape Artistic Director David Shopland – as we pay homage to one of the most iconic movies of the 1980’s: The Breakfast Club.

Also, as 2026 marks Fake Escape’s 10th Anniversary of bringing shows to the Edinburgh Fringe, we’ve decided to give you 3 fab shows this year! So we also have Day of The Locust, a new adaptation of the classic American novel of the same name exploring the Golden Age of Hollywood’s seedy underbelly, co-written and performed by award winning Pleasance stalwart Callum Patrick Hughes. And we’re also bringing back a Fake Escape favourite; our WhatsOnStage Award nominated, Off Broadway love letter to the Princess of Pop Saving Britney

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

We are huge fans of experimental, daring new writing mixed with high octane clowning, so we’re excited to see what’s next up Frankie Thompson’s sleeve, and we are always excited to experience the latest dive into iconic minds of the multi–Fringe First award winning Xhloe and Natasha!

Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.

We have! This marks our 10th year at the festival, and it feels like we learn new ways to best experience it every time we bring a show here! The best piece of advice is definitely pacing yourself: remember it’s a marathon and not a sprint, and take time to enjoy being in the moment because it will be over in the blink of an eye!

Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe

We try to be pounding the pavements, thrusting flyers into people’s faces as early as we can! We always try to find around 30 minutes before our show time to focus, meditate and detach from the flyering to focus on the performance. We then always try and support as many shows as our collective energy will allow each day; with my personal record being 61 shows over the month!

Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?

The first place I go whenever I arrive is the incredible PieMaker shop on South Bridge/Nicholson St for a classic Scottish macaroni cheese pie! I don’t feel like the Fringe truly starts until I get one.

Best thing about performing at the fringe?

There is nothing like the feeling of family and comradery among all fringe performers throughout the month; it is the most unashamedly supportive environment you could ever hope to experience, and it’s what sets Edinburgh Fringe apart from any other arts festival anywhere in the world. It’s like we’re all going into battle together!
