Hello! Tell us all about your show!
What I Talk About When I Run About, Talking, is a stand-up show about coming to terms with mortality. It’s also very accessible, and my big, courageous pivot to the mainstream – you’re all going to like this, and laugh without pause for an hour. If you don’t, you have to pay twice.
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
I mean, loads and loads of things. I’m excited to see what Piotr Sikora is up to in Blizzard, and what Lil Wenker’s up to in Boy King. I haven’t seen any of this new stuff, and their past shows were brilliant.
Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.
I’ve done the Fringe most years since 2007. My biggest advice is take care of yourself, really. I find it very useful to set a healthy routine that helps you get your mind outside of the fringe, whether that means cooking, exercising, walking, reading – just make sure you don’t lose yourself entirely to the festival, or it can all get a bit overwhelming.
Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe
Sleep twenty-two hours, wake up, walk to venue, perform show, leave and go and sleep.
Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?
Maki and Ramen. I love ramen, I think of it as a japanese scotch egg but instead of sausage meat and breadcrumbs they use a big wet noodle broth.
Best thing about performing at the fringe?
It’s great to do so many shows in a row to lovely audiences.
Do you bring anything special from home to make it feel more special whilst you are away?
No, should I? I haven’t really thought about that. Maybe I should. Like a table or something? I’ll bring a table or something.
What are your best hacks to save money whilst at the Fringe?
Have family who live in Edinburgh and can put you up for a month, I imagine.
If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?
I’m on instagram and bluesky as jlukeroberts.
And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
They have to
