Hello! Tell us all about your show!

Kat wants to be remembered. But being the favourite child is impossible when your competition is a literal angel. With Irish charm and cutting wit, Kat explores Catholic guilt, sibling rivalry and the “sainthood” of the dead in her sharp, storytelling debut. If you want a saint, go to church. If you want the truth, come to this.

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

So many- Dom McGovern and Marty Glesson are both debuting, and I’m dying to see their shows cause I’ve always loved seeing them perform. I also saw a WIP of Olga Koch and Ruby Carr’s new shows, and they were so good- definitely excited to see the finished product!

Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.

I would say #1 is drink more water than you think you need to- it helps with looking after your voice, the warm stuffy rooms, and handling the hills and hangovers. Also, bring a good backpack.  You’ll inevitably be carrying around a load of stuff (raincoat, flyers, phone charger, aforementioned water bottle), and your slutty little tote bag isn’t going to cut it.

Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe

I generally try to allow myself to sleep in-  sleep is a gift to give yourself cause the exhaustion is very real! I always make myself a good breakfast- eggs avo sambo or beans on toast, something filling and fueling. And then I make myself a packed lunch- mad I know, but you eat on the go so much, it’s the easiest way to save some money and make sure you’re not constantly eating s****.

Also, I tend to be someone who, once I’m out for the day, I’m staying out. So I bring my lunch with me cause “going home for food” isn’t happening. That’s where any semblance of a routine ends- maybe I’m doing a spot on a show,  flyering, making a post for socials, or sorting something that needs fixing for the show- inevitably the day flies by. Then I’m getting ready for my show- a vocal warm-up and getting changed.

After the show I try and do a quick debrief with myself of anything that went well or wrong, just 10 minutes or so of taking stock. I try to leave it there- no point wallowing or celebrating too much when you have to do it all again tomorrow.  Post show I generally meet up with friends and get some food, go see a show and enjoy actually being at the fringe!

Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?

Edinburgh has so many good food spots – part of the reason I make a packed lunch each day is that I have to force myself not to spend money I don’t have eating out constantly. But when I do- Ting Thai is one of my favourite spots, never disappoints. Also, Mosque Kitchen- it’s a classic for a reason. One place I’m planning on trying this year is Pomelo- I have heard great things but haven’t had the chance so I need to tick it off the list!

Best thing about performing at the fringe?

Getting to perform every day. Whenever I explain to friends or family that at the fringe you do your show every day for nearly a month, they think it’s mad, which it is, but I also think it’s a privilege. Performing is my favourite thing to do, and I’m so excited to dedicate my whole August to doing it!

Do you bring anything special from home to make it feel more special whilst you are away?

Barry Teabags- never travel without them.

What are your best hacks to save money whilst at the Fringe?

Pack your lunch (I sound like an ad at this stage) and learn to love walking, cause ubers and taxis are not in the budget.
