Hello! Tell us all about your show!
In Other Words is a one-woman show about words that don’t exist. In the show, the protagonist (who may or may not be me) is dealing with something. The kind of thing that’s hard to put into words. The kind of thing that makes you stop and wonder if there’s even a word to describe it.
So, she turns to the audience for help. Together, they start inventing words – ones that precisely define what she’s going through, and some other words we might as well take the time to invent.
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
My strategy is: get there and see what the vibe is. I visited the festival last year for the first time and realized just how much word of mouth is the key to finding the best shows! Having said that, I do have on my radar Cadel with Connor Delves, and the newest Xhloe and Natasha show, Bigfoot Ripped My Dog In Half, I Saw It.
Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.
This will be my first time! The best advice I got was to fly out and experience the Fringe for yourself before performing, which I’m so happy I did this past summer.
If this is your first time – what are you looking forward to?
Beyond getting to share my play with audiences from all over the world, I simply can’t wait to see what’s in store for me with all the other performances. I’m looking forward to seeing the work of both artists I’ve heard of and ones I’m not yet familiar with, and being inspired on a daily basis!
Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe
As I see it, the plan would be: start the day with a great brekkie, do a workout to make sure I can sustain a 60-minute one-woman show in which I talk unstoppably, flyer flyer flyer, perform, and then go see what’s out there! And drink some whiskey post-show with the people I meet along the way.
Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?
Finding the best spot in Edinburgh would be a goal in and of itself. My favorites are Italian, Thai, and Indian food, and I can always go for good old fish and chips.
Best thing about performing at the fringe?
Again, for me, it’s the people and the art I get to see along the way, as well as the opportunity to share this piece that I’ve been developing for the past two years!
Do you bring anything special from home to make it feel more special whilst you are away?
Pillows. I need so, so many pillows.
What are your best hacks to save money whilst at the Fringe?
I’m a fan of cooking, so while I will be on the hunt for the best spot to eat in Edinburgh, I will also be investing in cooking (and saving money that way).
If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?
@mayafeba or the show’s IG page @inotherwords_theplay
And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
Because Words. Have. Power.
