Hello! Tell us all about your show!
The Woman in the Mirror is based on my best-selling book, Surviving Alzheimer’s with Friends, Facebook, and a Really Big Glass of Wine.” I’ve been on rock radio since I was 17 and when my mom was diagnosed, I found IU just couldn’t call one more person after the first couple of calls. So, I did what I had done my whole life, I broadcasted – or rather – posted, “My mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s today.” I woke up to hundreds of messages from family, friends, and strangers. That was the moment I realized I was not alone and Facebook became my support group – with info, support, and best of all, a ton of laughter.
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
Oh, that’s a trick question! There are so many. But here are a few titles that have caught my attention:
This Is How I Got Arrested After Smuggling Drugs Across the Border but Never Actually Getting Caught with Any Drugs, The Only Man Who Won’t F*** Me, 116 Grams: A Play to Lose Weight with Letícia Rodrigues
The Battle of Frogs and Mice (which is right before ours on the same stage) Any musicals (we were investors in Come From Away, Tina Broadway, and a few others)
There are SO many – we are going to try to do as many as we can without killing ourselves but you only live once!
Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.
We accidently ended up at Fringe and Military Tattoo 15 years ago while driving around the UK for my 50th birthday. We were tired and the kids were bouncing off the windows of the car. We stopped at the nearest Hilton because my husband had the big loyalty status – and because of that, the brand had to give us whatever their available best room was at a standard room rate. That’s how we ended up in the seven room Caledonian Suite facing the castle on the opening night of Military Tattoo with fireworks and more!
If this is your first time – what are you looking forward to?
People, art, colors, sound, music, food, the tattoo my Edinburgh friends are threatening to make me get, the Highland Cow Experience, OMG I’m following all these influencers and I have a list. I might have to stay a year to get it all done.
Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe
Hmmm. Just starting to think about that. I am an early riser so and organized to a fault:
6:00 Wake, walk, coffee, read
8:00 Breakfast or a protein shake
9:00 Write Today’s Facts – a daily non-partisan brief I write trying to keep folks informed
10:00 Edit, write, create, and schedule social media for the day from things I gathered the day before
11:00 High protein lunch
12:00 Start getting ready and makeup (which I hate)
1:00 Walk to the theatre and walk around the area absorbing the energy
2:30 Get into character and be ready to go with props and all for a daily 3:15 show
3:15 70-minute show
Put our props and furniture away
Wine.
Food.
Shows.
Sleep.
Do it again.
Best thing about performing at the fringe?

What are your best hacks to save money whilst at the Fringe?
