It is festival season and that means that in the next month there is so many great comedy festivals to look forward to! This month we are looking at some of the great shows that you can see at the Edinburgh Fringe. So take note because we are going to give you all the information you need for just a handful of some of the great shows happening this year!

Alex and I have been making circus together for 25 years. We are also married. Collaborator is a duet we have made about the experience of trying to make work and a life together. It’s funny, honest, heartfelt, occasionally raw and hugely physical. We use doubles trapeze, tell stories and do experiments with pendulums.We
We made it at the beginning of the year and its been generating some amazing audience buzz and reviews. The Guardian called us “a real circus power couple” which delighted Alex! We are chuffed to be bringing it to the festival.
What other acts are you looking forwaerd to seeing at the fringe?
ARGH! I haven’t had a chance yet to sit down and have a proper trawl through the app and make my game plan yet so I’m afraid I got nothing. The thing I saw last year that blew my mind was “You’ll See” the adaptation of James Joyce’s Ulysses for children. I like to do some of everything dance, circus, theatre, storytelling. comedy and kids stuff as you never know what will capture you.
Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.
I have done the Fringe quite a few times. This might sound daft but I think I’d say remember it is a festival. The most beautiful thing is that you get to be part of a community of artists. Making and touring work can be quite isolating so make the most of the opportunity to see other work, meet other people. Getting good audience numbers / a good review is great and you can fixate on that but there are other radical, long term benefits in seeing things and making connections.
Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe
I have been coming to Edinburgh with my daughter since she was 3 months old so we have a bit of a routine going. Morning of stuff for her either swimming in the Commonwealth – honestly the goddamned best pool on earth – or a visit to the Botanicals. Then time for some family shows.We
We have to be at the venue for 3pm to warm up and pre set the show. Afterwards Alex and I will take it in turns to go out and see mates’ night time shows. In between all of this an endless cycle of flyering as we roam. Luckily my daughter, who is now 10, is amazing at flyering. Watch out – she is relentless.
Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?
Hmmmmm…. See the money hack answer below -we do drink a lot of coffee / eat a lot of cakes from Black Coffee
Best thing about performing at the fringe?
The chance to perform to amazing up for it audiences day after day so you can really hone and evolve what you make. It’s rare for us to get such a long run in one venue. It’s the chance to really bring something to life.
Do you bring anything special from home to make it feel more special whilst you are away?
Alex always brings his own pillow as he can’t sleep otherwise. I don’t bother as sleep is my superpower. Honestly I could fall asleep in a puddle.
What are your best hacks to save money whilst at the Fringe?
We try and make food rather than consuming an endless cycle of pulled pork from vans but who am I kidding. Make friends with performers and you can share comps. Maybe this year I’ll try and make friends with the pulled pork van people.
