It is festival season and that means that in the next month there is so many great comedy festivals to look forward to! This month we are looking at some of the great shows that you can see at the Edinburgh Fringe. So take note because we are going to give you all the information you need for just a handful of some of the great shows happening this year!

Hello! So, this is a solo show with music that delves into the history of Ireland as seen from the sky, through a series of folk stories, historical moments and contemporary feelings. It’s funny, irreverent and tongue-in-cheek, and is performed in a style that’s equal parts warm-old-Irish-storyteller and strange-bird-woman. It has a series of musical interludes that range from acoustic traditional instruments to hardcore electronics, live looping and effects. It came about from this obsession I have with aerial photos that are often displayed in Irish homes, which were sold from the 60s until the early 2000s by a door-to-door salesperson. I think these images really capture an era that we will never see again. The King of All Birds asks why we’re so obsessed with getting into the sky, and then, when we get there, why we’re only interested in looking back down.
The show premiered at the Dublin Fringe where it won the George Fitzmaurice Award, it has since gone on to tour to Toronto to headline the Canada Ireland Foundation’s Bealtaine Festival, as well as doing a national tour of Ireland.
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
I’m very excited to see Joy Nesbitt’s The Julius Caesar Variety Show, as well as Fishamble’s For Dolores by Eva O’Connor and all the other wonderful Irish work at the Fringe (it’s going to be a great year for the Irish!). I’m also really looking forward to taking chances on things, stumbling upon shows, and being surprised – that seems to be the magic of the Fringe!
If this is your first time – what are you looking forward to?
I’m really looking forward to experiencing Edinburgh at festival time for a whole month, I’m looking forward to meeting inspiring artists and audiences and having interesting conversations around this show and all the others that I plan to see.
Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe
Since ours is an afternoon show, I plan to sleep until the very last minute, get extremely, irrevocably nervous, perform the show, and then wander around the city telling bird facts to my next unsuspecting victims.
Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?
Since I am new to the Fringe, I have yet to be initiated into all the amazing places to eat, but I would really welcome any recommendations.
Best thing about performing at the fringe?
I think there will be a real pleasure in getting to perform the show so many times and finding new things in it each time. Many of our audiences have now seen it multiple times and they say they have a totally different experience each time, and it really feels like that from the inside too. I’m looking forward to learning more about the show as it reaches a whole new audience.
Do you bring anything special from home to make it feel more special whilst you are away?
It’s so painfully and embarrassingly Irish, but I actually will be bringing Tayto crisps and Barry’s teabags – sometimes you just need to play into the stereotype?
What are your best hacks to save money whilst at the Fringe?
My tried and tested method is to never have any money in the first place.
