Welcome To Taste of States a place where we celebrate the weird and wonderful food of the United States of America. This can be everything from the snacks that are available for a limited time to the foods that are classic traditions at events such as Christmas and Thanksgiving! Each week we will explore the facts and the history surrounding a different food.

FUNNEL CAKE DOG

Today we are heading to the Lemonade Days event in Dunwoody Georgia that is a fundraiser for the local presentation society. This week we look at an invention that combines savoury and sweet.

The food truck Dogs On Wheels created the snack Funnel Cake Dog. It was created because the owner had a craving for a dessert dog.

A freshly steamed hot dog is put on a stick and then thoroughly dipped in funnel cake batter. It is fried at 400 degrees for three to five minutes.

When it is cooked, homemade peanut butter sauce (peanut butter, sugar corn syrup and cream) is drizzled over with crumbled homemade peanut butter brownies followed by cream, caramel sauce and chocolate sauce.

It has been praised for having an intense flavour, works really well together and has a lunch to it as it is really rich.
