Hello! Tell us all about your show!
Our show is like if a group of kids pooled all their toys together, stole their parents cell phones, crafted some puppets out of pillow cases, plastic bags, and candy, and then used all of that to meticulously re-enact the classic 90s film Home Alone. We have as much fun as those kids would, but we’re also professional actors and a foley artist so we take the fun really seriously. It’s funny and sweet and wild and very original.
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
I want to see some clown shows!
Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.
I did the fringe many years ago, the summer after my freshman year of college; I think it’s really blown-up since then, and I’m so excited to see what it’s like now! I think the main advice I’d give is that leafleting / busking on the Royal Mile (and probably other places too) is so important and to have a good gimmick while you do it!
Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe
I’ll definitely be putting in some time at the gym and stretching before our show. It’s very, very physical and fast paced. After the show, I’ll clock-in at my remote job alongside some of the other actors who will be working remotely, and then I’ll go see some shows!
Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?
I’m going to try to find this cafe again – I went before cellphones were really a thing, so I really just wandered around. It had a toast with apple and Brie and it was delish.
Best thing about performing at the fringe?
It’s hard to pick a favourite but one thing I do get a thrill from is having to quickly set-up and take-down the show every time. I love that it has to be choreographed as if it’s almost part of the performance. Also I get to play the Joe Pesci villain character in our show, Harry, and as a fellow short, high-pitched Italian person, I feel very connected to him.
Do you bring anything special from home to make it feel more special whilst you are away?
I’ll bring a nice silk scarf from my mother who is a costumer!
What are your best hacks to save money whilst at the Fringe?
Meal prep foods that are easy and consistent and healthy, and then when you spend, spend on little special treats.
If people want to find out more about you, where can they follow you on social media?
Follow the company’s instagram at @recentcutbacks – we’re doing three shows while we’re at the fringe: KEVIN!!!!!; Fly, You Fools!; and Hold On To Your Butts. All live movie parodies.
And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
Christmas in August; nostalgia, hijinks, puppets; hands → face → AHHHHHH!
