Hello! Tell us all about your show!
Hello! It’s me – Sir Elton Scone! I’m bringing my live TV Gameshow to Edinburgh Fringe this year – the only TV baking gameshow where the audience compete to find the best baker using absolutely NO OVENS!! Think if Vic and Bob hosted Great British Bake-Off, think if Harry Hill did Ready Steady Cook, think if Jim Henson made an Elton John, think of me – Sir Elton Scone! Get ready for songs! Romps! A gameshow! And the best suit ever made out of a pair of curtains in this off-the-wall caper which obeys no conventional rules!
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
Look, there are at least 5 other Elton John themed shows at the fringe this year – let’s see them all! I think if you complete the full bundle, we should get you a prize!! I’ve checked them all out and they all sound fantastic – each and every one – and also so completely different! So, let’s spread the Elton love! I’ll be going to see all of them. In costume. Just to psych them out. Hoping we can have a big Elton day out altogether where we compare glasses and singing voices…and then we cuddle.
Also, I am probably most excited right now to see Adam Larter’s new show – not just because he’s directing my show, but also because he’s always been one of my favourite acts, and from what I’ve heard about this years’ show I just know it’s going to be incredible!
Other shows I’ll be off to see include:
Mark Silcox
Adele Cliff’s Topical Early Late Show With Adele Cliff (and not just because I am the house band!)
Mothman: A Romance Musical
Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe
D-R-I-N-K W-A-T-E-R!!!
At least 70% of fringe sads can be solved with water!!
Sore throat? = drink some water
Angry? = drink some water
Someone pretended not to recognise you in Brookes bar? = drink some water
You’ll feel so much better every time!
If you think you’ve drunk enough, have another pint!
Water is your friend!
Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe
Wake up & drink a litre of water to get that hydration started!
Cram wayyy too many things into a giant square bag that looks more like a Deliveroo bag than a backpack and start the hike into town. This year, for some reason I’ve made my costume so huge that it requires a piece of plumbing pipe to hold it up, so I’m going to be wandering around Edinburgh looking like I’m up to no good stealing pipes. Last year I wrote an article about my bag being too heavy in a bid to try and help me break the cycle. This year, I’ve not heeded my own warning, and I might even have to bring a cart to lug it around town on. WHY AM I LIKE THIS?!?!
I love to do “admin” in the morning. This just entails hanging out with friends listing all the things we should have done previously while having some water and letting off steam. Then I do any jobs I can to earn some money! (See if anyone’s hired my services on Fiverrr or whatnot…it’s amazing what people will pay good money for on there!)
Check how many t-shirts I sold in my shop (https://katie-pritchart.teemill.com/)
Pretend to look at the news to write some material for Adele’s topical show
Get angry at the news and hide my phone
Do 3 shows
Go home and drop off my bags and have a well-deserved shower
And then come back out again to watch some evening shows
Then collapse…ready to start again…
Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?
I’m a packed lunch girlie, and the nice thing is they don’t tell me off at Pleasance Dome when I’m eating my lunch in there – I also found a microwave there last year for heating up ready meals – BIG WIN!!! This may be classified intel, I don’t know? Plz don’t get me in trubbs.
Best thing about performing at the fringe?
The emotional rollercoaster. It’s like, I don’t need to have any emotions for the rest of the year cos I’ve experienced every type of reaction at the fringe! I’m crying, I’m laughing, I’m stoic, I’m hungry, I’m seething, I’m doing a roly poly dressed as a worm. The full shebang. So that’s probably my favourite.
Also, I love fringe gossip. Like not real drama gossip, but the silly stories that get made up that travel around the festival. Last year it was a bunch of Hollywood actors coming to see shows. And there was some validity because we knew people like Tina Fey were actually there, but then all of a sudden people were pretending they’d had loads of other famous people come to see their shows and photoshopping the “evidence” to prove it. I love silly fun like that!
Do you bring anything special from home to make it feel more special whilst you are away?
I bring my clothes airer – what can I say? I’m a sucker for dry pants at the fringe! I also bring my neck massaging ball to ease my neck from having to look up at so many tall comedians all day every day – why is everyone so tall these days? I wish I could walk around with a little hydraulic lift to raise me up to different people’s eye levels…or just be able to walk around on cobbles wearing big heels!
What are your best hacks to save money whilst at the Fringe?
Spare jam sandwich. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – you’ll thank yourself for your spare jam sandwich. Pack one in the morning and I guarantee it will get eaten!
You could also, if you’re small like me, get into the slipstreams of tall people and probably get into lots of places for free because the security teams don’t spot you. Not that I would ever do that!
Also, don’t go into the charity shops. It’s like they ship every cool thing from across the UK into Edinburgh charity shops in August cos they know I will go in there and buy it all – so just stay clear!!
If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?
Come and join the party!!!
Me – I am @katiepritchards on all socials
And Sir Elton Scone has his own Instagram @sireltonscone
And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
Explosive joyful fun!!!
