Hello! Tell us all about your show!
Gosh… it’s a true story about the most spiritual, crazy, and transformative experience in my life, or as we say in the tag line, it’s about sex, cancer and psychedelics.
I was hit with a surprising and scary diagnosis and forced to make decisions quickly, but who could I trust? It was crazy as I was in rather nebulous relationship, while receiving questionable medical advice from doctors, friends, a yoga instructor, handyman and family.
Ultimately, the experience lead to my participation as “Patient #13” out of 29 in a ground-breaking USA government-approved clinical (FDA) study that gave psychedelics (magic mushrooms) to cancer survivors with anxiety and depression. The study blazed a trail for the potential legalization of psychedelics (magic mushrooms) for medical use. And now it’s a show! Art and science unite. And I feel like the luckiest cancer survivor ever.
I learned to standup for myself as I morphed into a new person. It’s a dark comedy — I LOVE talking about the taboo, “scary” subjects that no one wants to talk about and finding the humor. Humor and wisdom often come from shocking moments and there are plenty of those in this strong narrative. It’s a three act story where I speak to the audience as if they are my best friends.
Audience and critic response has been fantastic, beyond my wildest dreams! Turns out traumatic comedic narrative heals more folks than just me.
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
Shows from talented USA artists that I know personally are: Planet of the Grapes at Pleasance, How to Poop in an Outhouse at -58°C, Delusions and Grandeur. Otherwise, I’m excited about all the international artists that I have yet to meet!
If this is your first time – what are you looking forward to?
I’m looking forward to an international and UK audience! Thus far, the US audiences have been extremely responsive with laughter and exceptional feedback. I hear the Scots don’t laugh so much. Which is fun too!
Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe
Gosh, I hope to find a great cup of coffee and a good Scottish breakfast, do some flyering, make new friends, walk through the park, give a fantastic show, make friends!!
Best thing about performing at the fringe?
Don’t know yet, but the plan is to grow as an artist and human being.
Do you bring anything special from home to make it feel more special whilst you are away?
Good question. Not sure yet. My cell phone with photos of my dog, Dezi.
What are your best hacks to save money whilst at the Fringe?
Meet people who want to buy me a coffee or a beer. lol.
