All this month we are celebrating areas around Edinburgh that you could visit as a day trip to have a short break from the hustle and bustle of the Fringe. Today we are heading a short bus or train ride away from the capital to take a look at a place where Mary Queen of Scots was born.
Linlithgow Palace is located in West Lothian, about a fifteen minutes walk from the train station through a really picturesque town. The palace is located up a slight hill and overlooks the town which makes it really stand out as you enter the location.
If you walk through the churchyard you can get a really good view of the palace and the loch, however, if you want to visit and find out more about it’s enriched history it is £10 for adults and free if you have a Historic Scotland or Explorer Pass cards. Depending on what time of the year you visit depends on the opening times but it is usually around 10am to 4pmish.
If you do pay to have a tour around the palace there are audio guides available so you can really understand the depths of the history. There are also different events on throughout the year to entertain the whole family.
I would recommend checking the palace as it is extraordinary structure with so much history you will feel like you are walking back in time.
