Taste Of States – This Week – Deep Fried Gummy Bear

Welcome To Taste of States a place where we celebrate the weird and wonderful food of the United States of America. This can be everything from the snacks that are available for a limited time to the foods that are classic traditions at events such as Christmas and Thanksgiving! Each week we will explore the facts and the history surrounding a different food.

DEEP FRIED GUMMY BEAR

Today we are heading to the Ohio State Fair to take a look at a snack that is incredibly unique and different to a lot of things out there.

The Deep Fried Gummy Bear was an idea that came to a good truck owner called Robin when they was trying to work out something new to bring to the State Fair.

They put a large cherry flavoured gummy bear on a stick. The gummy is then frozen so they can be deep fried. Once it is frozen it is covered in batter made of eggs, milk, cardamom and cinnamon. Once it is drenched it is then put in a frier for less then a minute.

Once the gummy has been deep fried it is covered in icing sugar. According to reviews the seasoning in the batter heightens the flavour. Apparently members of the public found it delicious and has a gooey pull when you bite into it
