I am a Video Editor – and one of the things (probably the main thing) that inspired me to work in television post production was actually music videos.
Music videos are one of my favourite things in the world and I spent hours and I MEAN literally hours when I was growing up watching them Even now in the modern world, I can find myself getting lost on YouTube watching music videos for hours on end – they are an addiction.
This month we are doing something a bit different – since I started this article I have had to choose four or five music videos for each month for the selected band or artist I decide to discuss. However, there are some videos that I love that just miss out on entering the top of my favourites so I thought it would be fin this month to do something called The Missed Tapes and have a look at music videos by bands we have previously covered but did not get a chance to shine in the sun.
Zombie – Yungblud
Why did you choose this particular video?
Yungblud has come a long way since I wrote about his music videos in 2020. His earlier videos had a lot of intense and depth to them which made them really interesting to talk about. Well, I thought it would be fun to look at a more recent song that was even nominated for a Grammy. Florence Pugh brings the character to.lofe and the emotion.
So, what is the narrative?
It is focussed on the life of a nurse in the NHS and all the emotions they have to deal with.
Favourite parts of the video?

One thing that makes the video so striking is the colour grade. It relies on elements of green and blue and that is what is so clever – it creates the darkness and the emotion in the video.

A lot of Yungbluds older videos makes him the key person where as witb this one this is deliberately not the case. It puts the hard work of nurses into the spotlight and he is hardly featured which again makes the video really poignant and effective.

The more positive the video gets, the quicker the edits changes become and that is what makes the video so effective and striking.
