Welcome To Taste of States a place where we celebrate the weird and wonderful food of the United States of America. This can be everything from the snacks that are available for a limited time to the foods that are classic traditions at events such as Christmas and Thanksgiving! Each week we will explore the facts and the history surrounding a different food.
MEXI-DOG
Today we are heading to the Oklahoma Rattle Snake festival to take a look at a food truck dish I came across the other day. Welcome to the world of the Mexi-Dog.
Apparently, the delicacy originated in Sanora Mexico and at the Oklahoma Rattle Snake festival they have put a spin on it. A hot dog is wrapped in bacon and then seasoned with salt and cinnamon. It is then put into the deep fat fryer to cook.
A toasted hot dog bun is the base, then beans are added onto the bun first, then the hot dog and it is finished off with homemade pico de gaillo, cheese, jalepeno cream that is also made from scratch. Online the Mexi-Dog has a lot of positive reviews.
