Welcome to a brand new feature! Every other week we are going to be looking at a different episode of a television show and delve into the world of that show! There is so many great television programmes out there that some of the are forgotten about or they even just get left behind. So let’s celebrate the world of television.
Show: Jonathan Creek
Episode: Black Canary
Original Release Date: 1998
If there is one show that was prominent in the nineties then it was Jonathan Creek. I was really young when it started and some episodes really scared me. Even watching them now as an adult they are still quite chilling.
I think the reason behind this is David Renwick is a master of writing, he is so good at creating a story that you think is going one way and then it goes in the completely opposite direction.
I am sure there will be other episodes that we will visit but there are a few reasons why I wanted to write about this episode. It scared me as a kid, it still freaks me out now and Rik Mayall is in it.
This episode is longer then others as it is a special – meaning there is more time to mystery and more time for Rik’s appearance as well. You can tell Rik was a special addition for the show as he gets a lot more air time then most guests do due tohis personality he is love by many.
The episode has a really dark narrative at the core of it and that is what makes it great about the show. The situations are so well written that you never guess the outcome. Also it is at a time before tech so it may be slightly outdated but still great.
