Sunday Book Club: The Scorch Trials, James Dashner

Every Sunday we are taking a look at the world of books. I read a lot and always want to share my opinions on what I read, so I thought it would be fun to write reviews. Today we are looking at the second book in the Maze Runner series.

The Scorch Trials (2010)

James Dashner

Synopsis

Thomas was sure that escape from the maze meant he and the Gladers would get their lives back. But no one knew what sort of life they were going back to.

The earth is a wasteland. Government and order have disintegrated and now Cranks, people driven to murderous insanity by the infectious disease known as the Flare, roam the crumbling cities hunting for their next victim … and meal.

Thomas can only wonder – does he hold the secret of freedom somewhere in his mind? Or will he forever be at the mercy of WICKED?

– from Waterstones

Positive Points

The one thing that is great about this book is that it is straight into the action and continues from where the last book left off. It is unpredictable and leaves you wanting to keep turning the page to find out what happens next.

Negative Points

Whilst this book follows on incredibly well there are parts of it throughout that are slightly confusing and you are not sure at first what is happening.

Overall Review

Overall it is a book that continues on very well from the original but it is not as strong as the first book. It leads you straight into the action and creates all the drama you expect from this world.
