The Travel Book – Travel Through A Photo – London Parakeets, London, United Kingdom

There is always a story behind a photograph and I thought it would be a fun way to look at the world of travel. So, welcome to the feature that will appear regularly in the travel section.

It doesn’t matter how long you have lived in London or how many times you have visited – there is always something new to discover. I lived in London nearly all my life and today’s activity I only discovered because my friend found out about it in a local magazine. If you have head to Kensington Gardens, you can feed the Parakeets.

In 2019, on a hot summers day, we headed to Kensington Gardens with some apples to find the parakeets. Apparently, loads of them hang out there and if you hold an apple they would land on you and eat from your hand.

We found the location quite early as there was loads of people with apples in their hands, surrounded by birds. We stood still and eventually we were surrounded by birds, they even used my guy mates hair as a nest which was really funny.

This is a photo I took of one of the parakeets that landed on my hand to eat an apple. I felt this photograph was one that defined fun whilst also highlighting the great fun one can have in London. The bold green of the bird and the angle of the photograph are all great. I also like this expression on the birds face and the shadows that it is creating.
