Tell Us about:
Your latest single you have released:
‘Midnight Calls’ is out now and is the first single to be released from my upcoming album ‘LFA’. I wrote it whilst living on the West Coast and it was tracked at East West Studios on Sunset Boulevard. It’s a love letter from London to LA, shaped by the experience of relocating and absorbing the mythology of Hollywood. Driving through the city at all hours, inspired by the Hollywood Hills and the legacy of those who built the industry.
Your favourite lyric in this song:
‘I’m on the edge and you’ve got the looks that kill’. It reflects both the emotional shift of moving to the West Coast, and the heightened drama of Los Angeles itself. It’s always interesting when you have a life in both the UK and US as I find I am awake at all times of the day and night catching up with people, which can trick your brain into new areas of creativity.
Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:
‘Take’ from my last record ‘Antonio’.
Your favourite song to play live:
‘Always Love’ from my first record ‘Fingers Crossed…’
The song that was the longest to write and why?
I tend to write songs very quickly but the longest one on this new record was ‘Harder To Say’ which was inspired by Mabel Normand who was a silent movie star. It is very lyric-dense and I just wanted to get it right to honor her legacy.
One of your previous tracks you would recommend for first time listeners of your music and why?
‘Ours’ from Antonio because it’s been really popular and I love the energy of it… it’s breathless!
Dream collaboration:
Frank Sinatra
Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:
First of all, a little nervous, then a look to the audience makes me connect and when I have the connection, it’s just exhilaration!
The track that is most fun to play live:
‘Last’ from Antonio. There’s a bunch of woo-hoos that the crowd always join in with!!
Essential items you always take on tour with you?
Water, tea, cake.
Describe your fans in three words:
Loyal, supportive, kind
A song released in the last few years by an artist or band you wish you had written:
I don’t really wish I’d written anyone else’s songs because then they wouldn’t be their song or sound the same. But a recent track I have really loved was ‘Hypersonic Missiles’ by Sam Fender.
What we can look forward to from your band this year?
New singles and then ‘LFA’ coming out with a bunch of new videos too!
