Tell Us about:
Your latest single you have released:
“Makin’ Bacon” is a rare, metal-forward Sons of Butcher song that threads a needle of heavy riffage with a thread of hooky melodies. This song is an opus to our collective, universal love of bacon. We went for a catchy chorus and a hooky groove that will have you nodding along!
Your favourite lyric in this song:
“Bacon, the Great Persuader…”
Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:
My favourite non-single album track from any of our albums is “The Antimosher”. It’s a funny look at the annoying, yet necessary art of moshing!
Your favourite song to play live:
We love to play our hit song “F*** The S****” live because it always sets the crowd off! And also because the song is so short that we can just keep playing it over and over. We’ve even been known to hand the instruments over to the crowd and let THEM play it!
The song that was the longest to write and why?
The longest song to write was “The Deepest Crush”. It began as an off-the-cuff joke song in the live-action Teletoon special Tourin’ The Canada (which mockumented our 2006 tour). We kept working on this song for years, exploring different parts and ways it could evolve. Finally, we settled on a version we liked and it was finally recorded and released in 2016 on an album called C Sections. What it was all said and done, that song was ten years in the making!
One of your previous tracks you would recommend for first time listeners of your music and why?
The song “We F******’ Rule” from our debut, self-titled album is a great gateway track into the Sons of Butcher universe! It’s heavy and rockin’ with soaring harmonies and a catchy guitar hook! Not just for fans of our cartoon show- we find this song resonates with anyone who likes to rock!
Dream collaboration:
Sons of Butcher X Spinal Tap collab on a song (with a video) would be so rad!
Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:
I feel equal parts excited and nervous every damn time! It’s like going into battle! Once it starts, there’s no stopping until it’s over!
The track that is most fun to play live:
“Beef And The Chicken” is a fun song to play live because a lot of it is based on my cues. This is one of those instances where I have full control of when we come back in, so I usually keep the band guessing as to when that’s gonna be! Always fun to have un-rehearsed moments mixed in to keep things fresh and fun for everyone.
Essential items you always take on tour with you
Vocal Eze throat spray! It always helps to keep our harmonies tighter. Also, our in-ear monitors keep us from blowing out our voices every show!
Describe your fans in three words:
Best Skids Ever!!!
A song released in the last few years by an artist or band you wish you had written:
“Rock N Roll Band” by The Dirty Nil
What we can look forward to from your band this year:
This year will be music videos, live shows and hot new merch drops!
